Responsibilities

  • Manage detailed and complex analysis of issues affecting administrative programs in state legislation.
  • Assist with policy implementation to achieve agency goals.
  • Serve on research and project teams and coordinate with agency leadership.

About This Job

The Louisiana Department of Public Safety (DPS) is seeking a highly organized, professional, and solutions-oriented Executive Management Officer to provide executive-level support to the Principal Assistant of DPS and the Commissioner of the Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV). This position serves in a key coordinating role within executive leadership and will assist with the management of high-level administrative, operational, and strategic matters affecting DPS and OMV. The Executive Management Officer will work closely with agency leadership, division administrators, governmental partners, and other stakeholders to coordinate priorities, monitor assignments and initiatives, prepare executive-level correspondence and briefing materials, and help ensure timely follow-through on matters requiring leadership attention.

The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who exercises sound judgment, maintains strict confidentiality, and can successfully manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced executive environment. This position requires exceptional communication and organizational skills, attention to detail, professionalism, and the ability to work independently while effectively collaborating across organizational lines.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Six years of experience in administrative services; OR
  • Six years of full-time experience in any field plus three years of experience in administrative services; OR
  • A bachelor’s degree plus three years of experience in administrative services; OR
  • An advanced degree or a Juris Doctorate plus two years of experience in administrative services.

Experience Substitution: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties And Other Information

Job-Specific Details: The Executive Management Officer Serves As An Advisor And Confidential Assistant To The Principal Assistant For DPS And The Commissioner Of The Office Of Motor Vehicles Who Serve As The Appointing Authorities For The Agency. In This Role, You Will:

  • Manage the detailed and complex analysis of issues affecting administrative programs of the agency in state legislation
  • Assist the Principal Assistant in the implementation of policy and procedures necessary to achieve the goals and mission of DPS.
  • Serve on various research and project teams
  • Broad administrative direction is received from the Principal Assistant and the OMV Commissioner
  • Provide analysis for decision-making and recommendations for corrective action, possible initiatives, implementation, etc. regarding budget planning and administrative procedures
  • Confer with and serve as liaison to other high-level officials in federal, state, and local governments and agencies and private industry relative to agency programs and operations of DPS and Office of Motor Vehicles
  • Conducts research utilizing state law, federal law, legislative acts, court orders, executive orders, budgets, policy statements, and special commission reports
  • Serve as the liaison to the DPS Office of Management and Finance on behalf of the heads of the offices under the DPS umbrella, including the Commissioner of OMV, the Chairman of the Gaming Control Board, the Executive Director of the LA Highway Safety Commission, and the Executive Director of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Commission regarding procurement services, time administrations, facility maintenance, training requirements, travel regulations, etc.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: This position is a Promotional or Probational opportunity.

Work Schedule: Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday.

Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
