Job summary

Broward County Government seeks an accomplished Chief Operating Officer (Assistant Director of Transportation) to lead the Transportation Department’s Operations Division, overseeing bus, rail, paratransit, on-board systems and fleet services. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Transportation, Public Administration, Business Administration, or closely related field.
• Six years progressively responsible experience in operational management and strategic direction of a public transportation organization.
• Master’s degree and at least 10 years of senior level management experience in a multi-modal transit agency preferred.
• Strong emotional intelligence and ability to address emergent issues.
• Experience in union negotiations and bargaining with unions.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership for Transportation Department’s Operations Division and oversee multiple modes.
• Oversee service delivery, operating budgets and fleet operations to meet performance goals.
• Lead strategic planning, KPI tracking and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Develop staff, manage budgets, and collaborate with county leaders and stakeholders.
• Respond to emergencies 24/7 and maintain strong union/management relations.
