Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin's Blanton Museum of Art invites applications for a Director of Education and Academic Affairs. This role leads a national‑level education and academic programs unit, shaping experiential and curriculum-based learning across campus and beyond.

Ideal candidates will have substantial university teaching experience, a track record in K‑12 education partnerships, and strong collegial leadership to advance the museum's mission in teaching, research, and community

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 7–10 years of related professional experience.
• Ability to articulate and lead a strong vision for object-based learning across disciplines.
• Proven success teaching at the university level with experiential and collection-driven approaches.
• Experience developing and delivering K-12 educational programs.
• Strong research skills connecting museum collections to interdisciplinary courses.
• Demonstrated leadership and people management experience.
• Ability to build relationships with museum staff, university partners, and stakeholders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple programs and deadlines.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for Education and Academic Affairs; mentor staff and oversee programs and budgets.
• Develop collaborations with academic departments and programs to leverage Blanton resources for teaching and exhibitions.
• Collaborate with curators to create interpretive materials and review content for clarity.
• Oversee K-12 programming, docent leadership, family programs, and evaluation for growth.
• Develop and execute an evaluation plan; participate in fundraising efforts for departmental initiatives.
• Engage the broader university student body in arts engagement and oversee interns and fellows.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
