Job summary

The Deputy Chief of Administration, Public Safety at the University of Rochester oversees day-to-day administrative operations of the Department of Public Safety, guiding Special Assignments, Support Services, and Training and Development while reporting to the Associate Vice President.

This role leads staffing, budgeting, internal communications, regulatory compliance, and coordination with university leadership to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient campus safety services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or related field required
• Minimum 7 years’ experience managing a public safety, security, law enforcement organization
• Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes, and directs the administrative and non-patrol activities of the department through the effective leadership of assigned staff.
• Oversees departmental planning, resource allocation, and service delivery to ensure efficient and effective operations.
• Collaborates with University Labor Relations to support contract development and negotiation efforts and serves as a key liaison in addressing and resolving public safety concerns, administrative issues, and stakeholder complaints.
• Ensures compliance with federal, state, university, fiscal, and personnel policies, procedures, regulations, and applicable codes.
• Hires or makes recommendations on the hiring of department staff, completes performance reviews and recommendations on promotions, salaries and other personnel matters.
