Job summary

University of Michigan-Dearborn is seeking a Deputy Chief of Police to lead the UM-Dearborn Department of Public Safety (DPS). The role provides executive supervision, direction for daily operations, and may assume Chief duties as needed to support DPSS mission and campus safety.

The incumbent will report to the Campus Chief of Police and oversee staffing, investigations, community engagement, and coordination with external law enforcement partners to maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of law enforcement leadership experience.
• Knowledge of state and federal regulatory agencies and their laws.

Responsibilities

• Supervise department supervisors and emergency management staff.
• Assist Chief of Police with all department operations for UM-Dearborn DPS.
• Ensure adequate staffing on all shifts to deliver public safety services.
• Address employee concerns and citizen complaints.
• Represent DPS at campus leadership teams and liaise with external agencies.
• Provide leadership and training to DPS staff.
