Job summary

Public Health Solutions seeks a full-time Writer to support the NYC Health Commissioner’s internal communications, including a weekly newsletter. The role requires thoughtful, audience-centered writing with joy, curiosity and care, crafting human-interest stories for 7,000 colleagues.

The candidate will manage the full production of editorial and design elements, uphold accessibility standards, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely, accurate content aligned with agency

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in communications or journalism, or equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of editorial planning, ghost writing, and internal communications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate complex info clearly.
• Skilled interviewer; comfortable putting people at ease to solicit stories.
• Familiarity with newsletter production workflows and internal comm metrics.
• Collaborative, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Be a collaborative member of the executive communications team.
• Lead writer for the NYC Health Commissioner’s internal content and newsletters.
• Plan and conduct internal staff interviews on deadline.
• Develop content with the executive communications manager to support weekly communications.
• Champion and uplift NYC Health Department employee stories.
• Coordinate with internal subject matter experts and design partners for accuracy and quality.
