Community Financial System, Inc. (CFSI) seeks an experienced General Counsel to lead the legal function, reporting to the CEO of NRS & GTC.

The role emphasizes ERISA, Collective Investment Trusts (CITs), and LLC governance, with responsibility for managing external counsel and ensuring regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will steer legal strategy, policy development, and governance to support growth across multiple business units while maintaining high ethical standards and risk

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school is required.
• Active bar admission in at least one U.S. state is required.
• Extensive experience in asset management, retirement services, or financial institutions is essential.

Responsibilities

• Serve as chief legal advisor to the CEO, the executive team, and the Board of Directors.
• Develop and execute the company's legal strategy in alignment with business objectives.
• Oversee ERISA, CITs, LLC structures, and Securities Law compliance.
• Manage external counsel, including budgeting, workload allocation, and cost controls.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements.
