Job summary

AlphaStaffHCM is seeking an experienced General Counsel to lead the Legal Department and provide practical guidance on employment, contracts, data privacy, governance, and compliance. This executive role reports to the CEO and collaborates with the Executive Leadership Team and Board.

The ideal candidate will have JD, Florida Bar status, 10–15 years of relevant experience, and prior PEO or HR-management exposure.

Qualifications

• J.D. or equivalent required with admission to the Florida Bar in good standing.
• Proven experience advising at executive level on employment, governance, and compliance matters.
• Experience with professional employer organization or HR/HC management is preferred.
• Strong business acumen and ability to translate complex legal concepts for non-legal audiences.

Responsibilities

• Provide executive-level legal guidance to the Board and senior leadership to align legal strategy with business goals.
• Lead and manage the Legal Department, including attorneys and support staff.
• Review and negotiate complex client service, vendor, and broker contracts; oversee vendor risk programs.
• Design and deliver employment law, compliance, wage/hour, leave, privacy, and AI governance training.
• Oversee audits of employment practices and immigration/ERISA compliance; monitor changes in laws.
• Manage data privacy program and cybersecurity incident response; liaise with insurance and risk teams.
• Maintain corporate governance documents, board materials, and company secretary duties.
