Job summary

The Southern Ozaukee Fire & EMS Commission is seeking a Fire Chief to lead a combined fire department serving the City of Mequon and Village of Thiensville in Wisconsin. The Fire Chief provides strategic direction, operational oversight, budgeting, training, and community risk reduction, coordinating with elected officials and community partners to deliver high-quality fire and EMS services.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree, multiple years of senior leadership and Wisconsin certifications,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Fire Science, Fire Administration, Emergency Management, Public Administration, Business Administration or another related field.
• Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in the fire service, including significant supervisory and command-level experience.
• Three (3) years of experience in a senior fire service leadership position, such as Battalion Chief, Deputy Chief, Assistant Chief, or equivalent.
• Wisconsin Firefighter certification at the required level.
• Wisconsin EMS certification or ability to obtain within specified period.
• Valid Wisconsin driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.
• Demonstrated experience in fire suppression, emergency response, incident command, fire prevention, EMS, supervision, and administration.
• Experience developing and managing departmental budgets, personnel, training programs, equipment, and resources.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction, operational oversight, and leadership for the Fire Department.
• Ensure delivery of high-quality fire and EMS services in Mequon and Thiensville.
• Coordinate budgeting, training, equipment, and intergovernmental relations.
• Collaborate with elected officials, municipal administrators, personnel, and partners to maintain safe, responsive services.
