OAFED is a progressive, growing combination fire and EMS department serving approximately 19,000 residents across 43 square miles just south of Madison, Wisconsin. Our response area includes a diverse mix of suburban, rural, residential, commercial, and community environments.

Operating from a single fire station, OAFED provides a comprehensive range of emergency services with:

  • Two Paramedic-level ambulances
  • Two fire engines
  • Heavy rescue
  • Tender
  • Two brush trucks
  • Career, part-time, and intern personnel

OAFED responds to more than 1,800 fire and EMS incidents each year while maintaining a strong commitment to providing professional, compassionate, and community-focused service.

The Division Chief will play an important role in the continued development of OAFED's Operations, Community Risk Reduction, and EMS divisions.

This position provides an opportunity for an experienced fire/EMS professional to lead, mentor, and develop our personnel while helping shape the future of the organization.

The Division Chief will work closely with the Fire Chief, Chief Officers, career personnel, part-time personnel, interns, and community partners to:

  • Lead and mentor members of the organization
  • Strengthen operational readiness and incident response capabilities
  • Continue advancing OAFED's EMS services and clinical operations
  • Develop and support personnel through training, coaching, and professional development
  • Lead community risk reduction and public education initiatives
  • Identify opportunities to improve organizational effectiveness and service delivery
  • Support recruitment, retention, and development of our workforce
  • Build strong relationships with our municipalities, residents, and community partners
  • Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, teamwork, and continuous improvement

At OAFED, our responsibility extends beyond responding to emergency calls.

We believe that being a successful fire and EMS organization means being an active and visible part of the community we serve. Our personnel regularly participate in public education, community events, school and daycare programs, fire prevention activities, public safety initiatives, and other opportunities to connect with the residents we serve.

We are looking for a leader who shares that philosophy and understands that strong emergency services organizations are built through relationships, trust, and service.

We are seeking an individual ready to take the next step in their career and make a meaningful impact on an organization that continues to grow.

The ideal candidate will be a:

Leader — Someone who leads by example, establishes expectations, and earns the respect of those they supervise.

Mentor — Someone committed to developing firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, interns, and future leaders.

Innovator — Someone who looks for opportunities to improve EMS, fire operations, training, technology, and service delivery.

Community Partner — Someone who understands the importance of being engaged with the residents, businesses, municipalities, and organizations we serve.

Team Player — Someone who can work collaboratively with personnel at every level of the organization and with our regional public safety partners.

Professional — Someone who demonstrates sound judgment, accountability, integrity, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

The Oregon Area Fire/EMS District is building for the future. This is an opportunity to become part of an organization that values its people, embraces growth, and is committed to providing exceptional fire and EMS services to our community.

If you are looking for an opportunity to lead people, develop personnel, improve emergency services, and make a lasting difference in the community, we encourage you to consider joining the Oregon Area Fire/EMS District as our next Division Chief.
