Job summary

DFAS seeks an Executive Officer to a Senior Executive Service (SES) level Director. This role analyzes and advises on a broad range of financial policies and procedures, resolves actions, and ensures timely execution in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment.

You will prepare staff papers, provide policy interpretations and recommendations, and serve as a technical expert on planning, implementation, and evaluation of DFAS-wide financial management programs.

Qualifications

• One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-13) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
• Specialized experience is defined as: Providing expert-level financial management policies and programs analysis; developing senior-leader recommendations, coordinating complex issues, and providing project management assistance.
• Education is not substitutable for specialized experience at this grade level.

Responsibilities

• Serves as the Executive Officer to a Senior Executive Service (SES) level Director, with responsibility for analyzing and advising on a variety of financial policies and procedures and resolving and executing a wide variety of actions.
• Provides executive-level support in an unusually demanding, fast-paced, and highly visible environment characterized by critical and time-sensitive concerns facing the Agency.
• Prepares staff papers to support taskings given by the Director and provides policy interpretations and functional recommendations to the Director on diverse financial management issues.
• Serves as a technical expert in reviewing and addressing issues impacting planning, implementation, and evaluation of DFAS-wide financial management programs.
• Monitors major projects; reviews policies and directives for effective and timely accomplishment of such projects; and reviews and recommends approval or disapproval of implementation plans developed by operating officials.
