Qualifications

Salary Range: $65,000 - $85,000


Position Summary

The Executive Director serves as the chief executive leader of UCAN City Mission, providing spiritual, strategic, and operational leadership to advance the Mission's Christ-centered purpose.


This role sets both short-term priorities and long-term vision, ensuring the organization remains focused, sustainable, and responsive to the evolving needs of the community. The Executive Director oversees all aspects of ministry operations, including staff leadership, program effectiveness, financial stewardship, facilities oversight, and community engagement.


As the Mission expands to serve both men and women with children across multiple locations, the Executive Director will guide this growth while maintaining excellence in care, safety, and program outcomes.


The Executive Director leads the Mission through a team of key leaders, equipping and overseeing those responsible for day-to-day ministry operations while ensuring strong alignment, accountability, and effectiveness across all areas. The Executive Director remains closely connected to frontline ministry - maintaining visibility with staff and guests and staying informed of the realities, challenges, and opportunities within Mission programs.


This role requires a leader who operates at both the strategic and relational levels - guiding the organization through others while remaining present and connected to those they serve.



Key Responsibilities


Spiritual & Ministry Leadership


  • Model and cultivate a Christ-centered culture grounded in the Mission's Statement of Faith

  • Provide spiritual leadership to staff and program direction, ensuring ministry is meaningfully integrated into all services

  • Support discipleship, restoration, and life transformation through both compassionate care and clear expectations for growth

  • Establish a ministry environment that balances grace, accountability, and personal responsibility, recognizing the complexities of addiction, trauma, and mental health

  • Ensure all services are delivered in alignment with the Mission's Christian identity while integrating spiritual formation with program structure to create pathways toward lasting change



Strategic Leadership & Organizational Direction


  • Establish and execute short-term and long-term strategic goals aligned with the Mission's vision

  • Lead organizational growth, including expansion to multi-site operations serving diverse populations

  • Monitor performance using defined outcomes and data, adjusting strategy to ensure effectiveness, sustainability, and measurable impact



Staff Leadership, Culture & Organizational Alignment


  • Lead, develop, and support a team of program and operational leaders responsible for day-to-day execution

  • Establish clear expectations, accountability, and alignment across all departments and locations

  • Build and sustain a strong, unified leadership team that reflects the Mission's values

  • Address conflict directly and constructively, strengthening trust and organizational effectiveness

  • Ensure leaders are equipped to manage staff and programs with consistency and excellence



Operations, Policy & Program Oversight


  • Provide executive oversight of all Mission operations across multiple sites

  • Ensure the development, implementation, and consistent enforcement of policies, procedures, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and safety standards

  • Hold program leaders accountable for effective, compliant, and mission-aligned service delivery

  • Maintain systems that promote consistency, safety, and organizational discipline

  • Maintain a visible and engaged presence within programs to stay connected to frontline realities



Guest Care, Safety & Program Integrity


  • Oversee programs serving individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction, and mental health challenges

  • Ensure guests are supported with clear pathways toward stability and success, including appropriate structure and accountability

  • Establish and uphold standards that balance grace and responsibility, including when intervention or dismissal is necessary to protect the safety of all guests and staff

  • Promote an environment that is safe, respectful, and conducive to transformation



Facilities & Environment Oversight


  • Ensure all facilities are safe, clean, and well-maintained for both guests and staff

  • Oversee maintenance planning and facility operations across current and future locations

  • Maintain environments that reflect dignity, order, and care



Financial Management & Resource Development


  • Develop and manage the annual budget in partnership with the Board

  • Ensure responsible stewardship and long-term financial sustainability

  • Lead and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including donor engagement, grants, and community partnerships



Board & Community Relations


  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors, providing clear and timely reporting on operations, finances, and outcomes

  • Support the effectiveness and development of the Board through engagement, planning, and sound governance practices

  • Serve as a visible and credible public voice for the Mission, representing its work to churches, donors, community partners, and public stakeholders

  • Build and strengthen relationships that advance the Mission's reach and sustainability, including volunteer engagement aligned with Mission programs



Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor's Degree required

  • Demonstrated commitment to Jesus Christ, including willingness to affirm and sign the Mission's Statement of Faith

  • Proven experience supervising staff and leading teams

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Submit to background/criminal history and fingerprint check



Preferred Qualifications & Competencies


  • Experience in nonprofit, ministry, or human services leadership

  • Demonstrated ability to lead organizational strategy and growth

  • Experience working with individuals facing homelessness, addiction, or mental health challenges

  • Financial management and budgeting experience

  • Fundraising and donor development experience
  • Strong judgment, emotional intelligence, and conflict resolution skills

  • Ability to balance compassion with accountability in a structured environment



Working Conditions


  • Primarily office-based with regular presence across multiple program sites

  • Regular interaction with individuals in crisis or recovery environments

  • Occasional evening or weekend responsibilities
