Job summary

One SAFE Place in California is seeking an Executive Director to guide a survivor-centered organization through its next chapter. You will build on a stabilized foundation, steward operations, finances, and a dedicated team, reporting to the Board of Directors and partnering with Children's Legacy Center.

You will translate vision into measurable outcomes, grow funding streams from local to federal levels, and foster a culture of belonging for staff and survivors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, Nonprofit Management, or related field.
  • Master's degree preferred but not required.
  • Experience with government grants and contracts preferred (Cal OES, HUD, VOCA, or similar).
  • Must pass background clearances as required by law and funders; valid CA driver's license and reliable transportation required.
  • Completion of California DV (40-hour) and SA (65-hour) crisis trainings within an agreed period after hire, if not already completed.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: develop and refine a multi-year strategic plan aligned with mission and goals.
  • Board Governance: serve as primary liaison to the board and provide transparent reporting on finances and programs.
  • Fund Development: lead fundraising across local, state, and federal streams and manage grants and partnerships.
  • Program Operations: oversee day-to-day operations, ensure regulatory compliance and staffing.
  • Staff Leadership: supervise leadership staff and foster professional development in trauma-informed care.
  • Community Engagement: build partnerships with community partners and represent the organization externally.
  • Children's Legacy Center Partnership: collaborate while preserving independent governance and legal status.
