Job summary

Sheffield City Schools is seeking an Executive Director of Special Education & Student Support to lead and coordinate programs for exceptional children and related support services. The role reports to the Superintendent and closely collaborates with principals and administrators to ensure high-quality instructional programs and compliance with state and federal requirements.

Qualifications

• Valid Alabama Class A Certification in Administration and/or Supervision.
• Valid Class B teaching certificate in Special Education.
• Three years of successful experience as a special education teacher.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the total program for exceptional children with principals and teachers.
• Correlate Special Education Program with the total instructional program.
• Assist in adaptation of school policies to include special education needs.
• Develop and implement policies and programs essential to exceptional children’s needs.
• Maintain awareness of legal requirements governing special education.
• Provide leadership in establishing new programs and improving existing ones.
• Develop survey programs for continuous identification of exceptional children.
• Evaluate programs and propose changes as needed.
• Assist in recruitment, selection, and recommendations for special education personnel.
• Compile and file reports, records, and documents required by law or useful for administration.
