OVERVIEW

At Orion, we are seeking an Executive Director of Patient Care Services to oversee Critical Care service lines in Baltimore, which include the ICU, ICU Step Down, and Neuroscience units. This opportunity combines strategic leadership with operational management, focusing on patient outcomes, staff recruitment and retention, regulatory compliance, and efficient resource allocation.

OPPORTUNITY

Direct Hire; Hybrid in Baltimore, Maryland (U.S. – Eastern Time Zone)

SALARY

$150,000 – $180,000 base including full benefits

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the development and execution of patient care strategies, goals, and priorities in alignment with the organization’s mission and strategic objectives.
  • Partner with hospital leadership to align Patient Care Services with organizational priorities and drive operational, clinical, and strategic performance.
  • Provide executive oversight of patient care operations, ensuring adherence to evidence based practices, organizational policies, and established clinical standards.
  • Optimize operational efficiency, nursing productivity, patient flow, and care delivery processes to improve outcomes, reduce variability, and support cost effective care.
  • Lead quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, including the development, implementation, and monitoring of clinical processes and safety protocols.
  • Monitor clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and key performance indicators, using data to identify improvement opportunities and advance the organizational goal of zero harm.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and effective problem solving across clinical, operational, and administrative teams.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and professional development to nursing and patient care leaders and staff, promoting high performance and professional growth.
  • Oversee recruitment, training, retention, performance management, and succession strategies to maintain a highly skilled and effective patient care workforce.
  • Develop and manage Patient Care Services budgets, analyze financial performance, and ensure responsible stewardship of financial and operational resources while maintaining high quality care.
  • Optimize staffing and material resource allocation based on patient demand, clinical priorities, and operational needs.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements, including Joint Commission standards, OSHA, HIPAA, and local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Maintain effective communication and collaboration with patients, families, staff, and multidisciplinary teams to address concerns, enhance the patient experience, resolve conflicts, and facilitate effective care delivery.
KEY EXPERIENCE
  • 7+ years of progressive leadership experience, ideally with a focus in critical care services.
  • Experience leading clinical teams and stakeholder management in a hospital environment.
  • Nursing background with experience in ICU, ICU Step Down, and Neuroscience units.
  • Expertise in processes, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
EDUCATION
  • Master's degree required; DNP preferred
  • Registered Nurse License (Current Maryland license or eligibility to obtain Maryland license)
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Quick turnaround: preliminary interview followed by team interview on phone and Google Meets.
  • Typically, one round with the hiring manager, joined by the team (virtual interview), possibly two rounds if necessary.
