Job summary

Prince William County is seeking a strong, experienced leader to head our Department of Parks & Recreation. This senior role provides strategic direction, manages a large agency, and engages with the Board of County Supervisors, the Parks Commission, other County departments, recreation leagues, community groups, and citizens.

The Director will align operations with best practices, oversee capital planning, budgets, and staff, and advance transformative initiatives that enhance residents'

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in recreation management, business or public administration, physical education, or a related field.
• Eight years of progressively responsible experience in recreation, parks, cultural services, or public administration, including supervisory or management experience.
• CPRE certification or equivalent NRPA certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide executive leadership and overall management of the Department, aligning programs with Mission, Vision, and Goals.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate department-wide strategies, goals, and policies for recreation, parks, and cultural services.
• Direct and oversee multiple divisions and program areas to ensure collaboration and accountability.
• Oversee operating and capital budgets and identify revenue opportunities and cost efficiencies.
• Foster partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to communicate priorities and community impact.
• Represent the department in meetings, task forces, and advisory groups; promote resources to residents.
