Job summary

General Atomics is seeking a Director of Purchasing to lead the procurement department, directing buyers and subcontract administrators, and ensuring cost, schedule, and performance of subcontracts. The role involves policy development, supplier negotiations, and coordination with engineering and manufacturing to meet corporate objectives.

The position requires extensive experience in contracting, FAR/UCC knowledge, and strong leadership to drive procurement strategies across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business administration or related discipline.
• 15+ years of progressive experience in awarding and administering complex contracts.
• 9+ years managing purchasing processes and personnel.
• Extensive knowledge of FAR, FAR supplements and the UCC.
• Ability to coordinate inter-organizational activities and explain complex issues.
• Experience negotiating complex purchases and subcontracts; knowledge of materials planning.

Responsibilities

• Review and approve high-dollar purchase orders and subcontracts.
• Direct compliance with purchasing policies and procedures per regulations.
• Direct staff, assign tasks, and ensure timelines are met.
• Obtain quotes and proposals; negotiate pricing with suppliers.
• Manage production schedules by planning and monitoring buys.
• Oversee supplier evaluations and pre-award surveys.
• Coordinate audits with government and customers.
• Represent the company with customers and suppliers.
• Stay current on best practices in supply chain management.
• Lead recruitment and development of procurement staff.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with laws.
• Ensure safety and compliance in operations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
