Job summary

West Virginia University Foundation seeks an Executive Director of Development (EDOD) for WVU Medicine to lead comprehensive fundraising across clinical programs, including the WVU Eye Institute and the WVU Heart & Vascular Institute. This role leads multiple unit fundraising teams and shapes donor engagement strategies aligned with university priorities.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
Minimum five years of progressively responsible fundraising experience in higher education or academic medical centers.
Success securing six- and seven-figure gifts and managing donor portfolios.
Strong leadership, strategic planning, and team management skills.
Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building abilities; knowledge of CRM and donor stewardship.

Responsibilities

Provide day-to-day management of development operations for WVU Medicine clinical units, including the Eye Institute and Heart & Vascular Institute.
Lead, mentor, and supervise development teams assigned to these units.
Develop and execute fundraising strategies aligned with university campaigns and priorities.
Collaborate with unit leaders to identify funding needs and solicit private philanthropic support.
Expand grateful patient programs and manage donor engagement across WVU Medicine.
