Job summary

Chicago Public Schools is seeking an Executive Director of Information Security to lead the district-wide information security program and team.

The role reports to the Chief Information Officer and focuses on policy development, risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance across CPS IT systems and data. This exempt, full-time position requires strategic oversight and collaboration with multiple CPS departments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• CISSP or similar professional security management certification preferred.
• Seven or more years in IT with at least five years in information security.
• Three or more years in a large enterprise IT organization (>50,000 users).
• Five or more years of supervisory experience.
• Experience with contract and vendor negotiations.
• Experience designing and managing security systems.

Responsibilities

• Establish and oversee enterprise information security program directives and plans.
• Develop and maintain security policies, standards, guidelines and training.
• Lead and develop information security and operations teams.
• Provide leadership on security topics, business continuity, and disaster recovery.
• Oversee architecture and engineering of new security systems.
• Ensure security is integrated into design, procurement, and configuration.
• Lead investigations and manage security events and escalation.
• Monitor external threat environment and advise on actions.
• Report program status to CIO and senior management.
• Establish metrics to measure program maturity and effectiveness.
• Liaise with CPS units and external agencies to maintain security posture.
• Audit, monitor and validate security across systems and environments.
• Other duties as assigned.
