Florida Diabetes Camp is seeking an Executive Director to lead strategy, fundraising, and operations in Florida. You will work with the Medical Director, staff, and volunteers to ensure safe, impactful, and financially responsible programs for children and families living with type 1 diabetes.
The role requires engaging with donors and partners across Florida, building strong relationships, and guiding the organization toward sustainable growth while maintaining mission alignment.
The Executive Director is the primary organizational leader of Florida Diabetes Camp and is responsible for advancing its mission, strengthening its infrastructure, and positioning FDC for long-term sustainability and growth.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director leads organizational strategy, fundraising, financial management, staff leadership, administration, partnerships, and year-round operations. The Executive Director works closely with the Medical Director, Board, staff, and volunteer leadership to ensure FDC’s programs remain safe, impactful, financially responsible, and aligned with the organization’s mission.
This position supervises the staff and volunteers and serves as a visible representative of the organization with campers, families, healthcare professionals, donors, partners, and the broader community.
What makes this organization special is that the experiences of campers and families are ultimately at the center of every decision.
The strongest candidates will bring:
At least 5 years of progressive leadership experience, preferably within a nonprofit, association, healthcare, education, youth-development, or other mission-driven organization. Demonstrated success managing people, organizational priorities, budgets, and complex stakeholder relationships. Meaningful fundraising experience that could include donor cultivation, stewardship, grants, institutional giving, corporate partnerships, or major gifts. Experience working effectively with a nonprofit Board or comparable volunteer governance structure. Strong financial literacy, including experience with budgeting, financial reporting, and organizational planning. Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate directly, manage conflict constructively, and build trust across diverse groups. Strong organizational judgment, initiative, adaptability, and strategic thinking. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
We recognize that the strongest Executive Director may come from outside the camping or diabetes communities. FDC is most interested in finding a proven leader who can learn the organization, respect the expertise already present, build strong relationships, and move the organization forward.
This position is based in Gainesville, Florida, and candidates must be based in or willing to relocate to the area. The work occurs in a combination of office, community, and outdoor camp environments.
Frequent travel throughout Florida is required, along with evening and weekend responsibilities and attendance at FDC camp sessions and organizational events. The Executive Director must be comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions, walking and standing for extended periods, navigating uneven terrain, and occasionally lifting up to 35 pounds.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of required criminal background and sex offender registry checks.
Salary: $90,000–$100,000, commensurate with experience.
