Job summary

Firefighters First Federal Credit Union is seeking an Executive Director to lead the Fire Family Foundation, providing visionary leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight to support firefighter families facing emotional and mental health challenges.

The ED will develop relationships with stakeholders, expand funding through grants and partnerships, and ensure programs deliver measurable well-being outcomes. This is a remote role aligned to Pacific Time with Western US preference.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, nonprofit management, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in nonprofit, mental health, or first responder support.
• Deep understanding of psychological and emotional challenges faced by firefighter families.
• Proven fundraising experience with grants, sponsorships, and individual contributions.
• Strong leadership and team management with ability to inspire staff and volunteers.
• Excellent communication and public speaking skills to represent the foundation.
• Experience working with a Board of Directors and governance structures for nonprofit organizations.
• Compassionate, empathetic, mission-driven.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic initiatives to support firefighter families with mental health, family dynamics, and emotional resilience.
• Lead with empathy and ensure programs address firefighter family needs.
• Collaborate with the Board to establish long-term goals and mission alignment.
• Oversee development and delivery of programs and events for well-being and mental health.
• Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy and seek new funding opportunities.
• Engage stakeholders, fire departments, unions, community leaders, and policymakers.
• Manage the foundation’s budget, financial reporting, and compliance.
• Lead governance efforts, recruit and orient board members, and ensure core policies.
• Mentor team members, provide training, and uphold service standards.
