Job summary

The National Speleological Society (NSS) seeks an accomplished Executive Director to lead day-to-day operations and implement the Board's strategic direction. This role will work with staff, Division Heads, and volunteers to advance NSS programs, science, and conservation initiatives.

Reporting to the Board of Governors, you will oversee divisions, strengthen partnerships, and drive organizational growth while ensuring fiscal discipline and mission-aligned operations in a hybrid work model based

Qualifications

• Minimum of ten years of nonprofit management experience.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination; advanced degree preferred.
• Familiarity with cave and karst science or related environmental fields desirable.
• Experience with land trusts, conservation organizations, or stewardship of protected lands desirable.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to collaborate with diverse constituencies.

Responsibilities

• Assess organizational needs and strengthen systems, staffing, and resources for long-term growth.
• Supervise NSS staff and set priorities in support of the mission and plan.
• Support staff professional development and engagement.
• Provide leadership to NSS divisions and ensure volunteers are supported and aligned.
• Grow fundraising and development efforts; cultivate donor relationships and pursue grants.
• Develop partnerships with industry and external organizations to advance conservation and science.
• Identify and address staffing, resource, and organizational challenges as they arise.
