Job summary

Highlands College seeks an Executive Director of Facilities & Maintenance to lead a 70-acre campus in Birmingham, AL. You will drive strategic planning, operational excellence, and the spiritual environment, ensuring a safe, “Showcase Ready” campus at all times.

Lead a team across facilities, maintenance, cleaning, and grounds; manage capital projects, budgets, and vendor contracts; coordinate emergency readiness and campus services to support academic and residential needs.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' experience as Director of Facilities or Engineering at a Class A facility or multi-site campus.
• Expert knowledge in at least two related trade certifications (HVAC, Electrical, Mechanical, General Contracting) and broad trade awareness.
• Deep knowledge of building systems, life safety standards, CMMS usage, and BAS.

Responsibilities

• Lead facilities, maintenance, cleaning, and mailroom teams.
• Oversee campus maintenance, repairs, and long-term upkeep of all buildings and systems.
• Develop and manage the departmental budget, prioritizing energy efficiency and capital planning.
• Direct vendor management, contract negotiations, and procurement for groundskeeping and repairs.
• Ensure safety, security, and emergency preparedness for campus operations.
• Represent the department in executive meetings and cross-functional planning.
• Drive strategic campus projects from design through completion.
