Job summary

The Florida Department of Health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance, seeks a capable administrator to serve as Board Executive Director for the Board of Nursing. The incumbent will provide strategic leadership, oversee licensure processes, and work with the Governor-appointed Board members to ensure safe, effective nursing practice in Florida.

The role requires strong leadership, budget oversight, executive decision-making, and effective communication with staff, licensees, and the public.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of leadership experience, preferably in health care, regulatory compliance, or public health.
• Proven ability to lead and motivate teams, develop strategic initiatives, and manage cross-functional collaborations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience serving as a spokesperson or in public relations capacities.
• Experience in building relationships with government officials, health care professionals, and community stakeholders.
• Proven ability to handle high-pressure situations and provide guidance during emergencies or in complex situations.
• A proactive approach to identifying areas for improvement and implementing best practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead the analysis of proposed bills and administrative rules related to the practice of medicine in the state of Florida, as well as spearhead the implementation of and auditing compliance of all relevant statutes and rules by Department staff, licensure applicants, health care practitioners, and other applicable parties.
• Administers and interprets statutes, policies and procedures, and administrative rules - to the public, applicants, members of the Legislature and their staff, local, state and federal agencies, societies and associations, and member of the professions.
• Acts as an agent for the Board for the service of legal processes and represents the Board at local, state, and national associations and meetings.
• Supervise and manage a staff of approximately 65; oversee budget planning and ensure timely performance of duties.
• Collaborate with the Board of Nursing and its committees to ensure licensing, monitoring, disciplining, and education of practitioners.
• Conduct bi-monthly board meetings, advocate before the Board on health care policy goals, and ensure compliance with licensure requirements.
