Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health seeks an Executive Director of Board Development to lead system-wide trustee recruitment, onboarding, and engagement across first-tier hospitals, aligning governance with organizational priorities.

You will partner with Governance and philanthropy leaders to develop education programs for board members, monitor engagement metrics, and advance diverse volunteer leadership to reflect patient communities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 10–15 years of leadership experience in philanthropy, volunteer leadership, board development, nonprofit management, healthcare administration, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of leadership and staff management experience.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships with trustees, senior executives, donors, and community leaders.
• Healthcare, academic medicine, or large nonprofit system experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Leads the Board Development function across first-tier BILH hospital and clinical unit boards, establishing a system-wide approach to recruiting, onboarding, and educating volunteer leaders.
• Develops system-wide strategies for trustee recruitment, leadership succession, committee appointments, and volunteer engagement.
• Ensures alignment of board structure with governance standards and local priorities.
• Builds candidate pipelines and collaborates with governance and philanthropy leadership to recruit high-impact volunteers.
• Cultivates trustee and volunteer leadership pipelines, identifying future board chairs and ambassadors.
• Develops onboarding, orientation, and education programs for first-tier board members and leaders.
• Creates strategies to increase community representation and skill-based board participation.
• Provides strategic leadership for trustee engagement, stewardship, and metrics reporting.
• Partners with philanthropy and executive leadership to maximize trustees' influence and networks.
• Develops educational initiatives to enhance engagement in philanthropy.
• Ensures a consistent trustee experience across lifecycle stages.
