Job summary

Coalition for African Americans in the Performing Arts (CAAPA) seeks an Executive Director to lead as CEO, partnering with the Board to advance access, opportunity, and representation in the performing arts. You will drive strategy, fundraising, programs, and external relations while ensuring strong governance and sustainable growth.

The role is primarily remote with occasional on-site engagements in the Washington, DC metro area, reporting to the Board of Directors and supervising staff,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
• Seven or more years of nonprofit, arts, education, or related leadership experience.
• Proven success leading organizations or major initiatives.
• Experience in fundraising and donor development.
• Strong financial and budget management skills.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
• Reside in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area.
• Primarily remote with occasional on-site attendance.

Responsibilities

• Strategic leadership: develop and implement vision and operating plan with the Board.
• Program leadership: oversee programs aligned with mission and impact.
• Fundraising and advancement: grow major donors, foundations, and partnerships.
• Financial leadership: oversee budgets, reporting, and controls.
• Board partnership: liaison to Board and policy implementation.
• Community engagement: serve as ambassador and build partnerships.
• Organizational leadership: recruit and develop staff; ensure governance and compliance.
