Job summary

East River Legal Services in Sioux Falls, SD seeks an Executive Director who will provide strategic vision, organizational leadership, and resource development to expand access to justice for low-income individuals. The Executive Director will articulate the mission to garner broad community support and oversee service delivery.

The role requires guiding programs, fundraising, ensuring compliance, and building partnerships with boards, courts, and community partners to grow services and impact

Qualifications

• A proven commitment to the legal needs of low-income communities.
• A J.D. and SD Bar admission or ability to obtain within one year.
• 5+ years in law practice or people management with leadership experience.
• Experience in nonprofit management or mission-driven organizations preferred.
• Experience with fundraising, grant administration, budgeting, and leadership preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication and stakeholder relations skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and management of the organization, ensuring operational excellence, financial sustainability, and mission-driven service delivery.
• Supervise grant compliance, ensuring reporting requirements and regulations are met.
• Partner with the Board of Directors to establish strategic priorities and governance.
• Build strategic relationships with legal aid organizations, courts, and community partners to expand access to justice.
• Cultivate private donors, engage sponsors, and pursue new grants.
• Lead the development of innovative and client-centered legal service strategies.
