Job summary

Fair Chance seeks a visionary, strategic, and collaborative Executive Director to lead the organization into its next phase of growth following a leadership transition. Fair Chance Since 2002, Fair Chance has strengthened community-based nonprofits so they can achieve life-changing outcomes for children, youth, families, and communities throughout the Greater Washington region. Through executive coaching, leadership development, organizational consulting, and customized capacity-building partnerships, Fair Chance equips nonprofit leaders with the tools and support needed to increase organizational effectiveness and community impact.

Over more than two decades, Fair Chance has become a respected leader in nonprofit capacity building, partnering primarily with organizations led by leaders of color and individuals with lived experience. The organization has helped improve outcomes for nearly 200,000 children, youth, and family members while advancing more racially equitable communities. Today, with an annual budget of approximately $1.6 million, an eight-person staff, and a committed Board of Directors, Fair Chance is implementing an ambitious ten-year vision focused on stronger leaders, successful nonprofits, and life-changing outcomes across the region. Working closely with the Board and leadership team, the Executive Director will supervise the Deputy Executive Director, Finance & Operations Manager, and Development team while fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing organizational culture.

Key Responsibilities
Vision, Strategy, and Organizational Leadership
  • Lead implementation of Fair Chance's strategic vision and organizational priorities.
  • Partner with the Board to advance mission, strategy, and organizational performance.

Fundraising and External Relations
  • Lead fundraising strategy and strengthen relationships with donors and foundations.
  • Serve as Fair Chance's chief ambassador with nonprofit, philanthropic, civic, and policy leaders.

Operations, Finance, and Talent
  • Ensure sound financial stewardship, budgeting, forecasting, and organizational planning.
  • Strengthen systems, infrastructure, and operational effectiveness.

Experience, Skills, And Qualities
  • Passion for Fair Chance's mission and commitment to community-based nonprofits.
  • Ten or more years of progressive nonprofit or mission-driven leadership.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $165,000, commensurate with experience, plus a competitive benefits package including health insurance, retirement benefits, paid time off, and additional employee benefits.
