Job description

AMR Management Services is excited to offer a rewarding career opportunity for a full-time remote Executive Director to join our team of association professionals.

The Executive Director provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for assigned client(s), partnering with the Board of Directors, volunteer leaders, members, and AMR's internal teams to advance the association’s mission and achieve its strategic goals. As part of AMR’s association management model, the Executive Director can focus on organizational leadership, Board partnership, and member impact while leveraging AMR’s shared services and operational support to bring strategic priorities to life.

Serving as both a strategic partner and hands-on leader, the successful candidate will bring significant association management experience, strong executive presence, and the ability to translate vision into action. This individual must be comfortable navigating complex challenges, developing creative solutions, managing financial and operational priorities, and building productive relationships with diverse stakeholders. Experience managing a national medical or healthcare association is highly preferred.

The role is dynamic and fast-paced with multiple projects, stakeholders, and priorities requiring attention simultaneously. Success requires someone who can balance strategic thinking with practical execution, adapt to changing needs, exercise sound judgment in complex or ambiguous situations, independently manage competing priorities, and proactively identify opportunities to strengthen the association and its impact. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, solutions-oriented leader who enjoys working with volunteer leadership, developing people, and delivering results while balancing exceptional client service with sound business practices.

Major Responsibilities
Executive Leadership & Strategic Planning
  • Ensure all programs, activities, and services outlined in the association’s annual workplan are delivered effectively and in accordance with AMR’s contractual obligations.
  • Partner with the Board of Directors and volunteer leaders to establish priorities, advance strategic initiatives, and fulfill their leadership responsibilities.
  • Develop annual and long-term strategic goals and lead efforts to translate those goals into actionable plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Assess industry trends, anticipate emerging challenges, evaluate member needs, and recommend opportunities to strengthen the association’s impact and long-term sustainability.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the AMR client team and the association’s Board, keeping leadership informed of significant developments, risks, and opportunities.
  • Oversee the development of the annual workplan in accordance with AMR procedures and timelines.
  • Manage resources assigned to the association, monitor budgeted hours against actual utilization, and proactively communicate concerns or recommend adjustments.
  • Identify opportunities to expand services and enhance the value AMR provides to the association.
Sponsorship & Revenue Development
  • Develop annual sponsorship and corporate partnership strategies, including the sponsorship prospectus, recommended pricing and packages, and a strategic outreach plan and calendar.
  • Lead corporate partner solicitation campaigns for current and prospective sponsors, coordinating outreach, follow-up, and relationship cultivation with the Fundraising Committee and association leadership.
  • Research and identify prospective corporate partners, assess alignment with sponsorship opportunities, and develop tailored executive summaries and proposals to support engagement and revenue growth.
  • Manage the sponsorship pipeline and contracting process, maintaining a centralized dashboard to track outreach, prospect engagement, and opportunities. Schedule and participate in sponsor meetings and coordinate contract development, negotiation, and execution.
  • Coordinate corporate partner engagement at industry conferences and events by identifying prospective sponsors, arranging meetings with company representatives, and coordinating participation by Board and Fundraising Committee members. Prepare volunteer leaders for sponsor discussions by providing relevant company background, relationship history, and supporting materials.
  • Develop and implement the annual fundraising plan, identifying key professional and personal relationships to cultivate prospective donors and coordinating targeted fundraising outreach.
  • Coordinate the transition of contracted sponsorships to the appropriate team members for fulfillment, ensuring clear communication of sponsor commitments, deliverables, and expectations.
Operations
  • Oversee association operations, policies, and procedures to promote effective, consistent, and compliant organizational practices.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to direct reports and other AMR team members assigned to the association.
  • Conduct quarterly feedback and development conversations with direct reports to support performance, engagement, and professional growth.
  • Coordinate with internal AMR teams and association stakeholders to ensure programs, projects, and events are delivered successfully.
  • Manage projects, priorities, and team communication using Basecamp to support accountability, visibility, and timely execution.
  • Provide regular updates to the association’s Board and AMR Executive Team regarding progress, priorities, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Ensure required annual reports are filed with the appropriate Secretary of State.
  • Stay informed of association management best practices, industry standards, and emerging opportunities to support continuous improvement.
  • Develop the annual association budget in collaboration with appropriate stakeholders, incorporating financial projections, organizational priorities, and resource needs.
  • Review monthly financial reports, analyze performance against budget, and prepare summary communications identifying key trends, variances, and recommended actions.
  • Monitor revenues and expenses to ensure alignment with approved budgets and proactively address significant variances.
  • Coordinate the collection and preparation of information needed for annual tax filings, including Form 990, and financial audits or reviews.
  • Monitor investment balances and recommend actions consistent with the association’s investment policy and financial objectives.
Communications & Relationship Management
  • Build and maintain strong, productive relationships among the association’s Board, volunteer leaders, members, external stakeholders, and AMR’s internal teams.
  • Prepare and deliver clear, professional communications to Board members, association members, sponsors, and other stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance member engagement, strengthen stakeholder relationships, and increase the value of association programs and services.
