Job summary

La Casa de las Madres seeks an Executive Director to serve as chief advocate and cultural anchor, reporting to the Board and leading a staff of about 40. The role is a public-facing leadership position guiding strategic vision, operations, and the mission for San Francisco’s domestic violence services.

The ED will cultivate donor and foundation relationships, diversify funding, and ensure program quality and compliance while partnering with program Directors to advance service excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Engage city officials, law enforcement, media, and elected leaders; build coalitions.
  • Oversee daily operations, financial management, and program quality; ensure contract compliance.
  • Provide strategic guidance to the Board and supervise Directors of programs.
  • Foster an inclusive, diverse workforce and strengthen organizational culture.

Job description

The client seeks an Executive Director to serve as chief advocate and cultural anchor, reporting to the Board and leading a staff of approximately 40. This role is a public-facing leadership position responsible for carrying forward the organization’s legacy through strategic vision, operational steadiness, and a demonstrated passion for the mission and survivors served. As the primary spokesperson within San Francisco’s domestic violence landscape, the Executive Director will continue a tradition of bold advocacy by engaging city officials, law enforcement, media, and elected leaders; building coalitions; and ensuring the organization remains a go-to resource for domestic violence expertise.

The Executive Director will cultivate and strengthen donor, foundation, and corporate relationships to diversify and expand philanthropic support. Internally, the role will reinforce organizational culture and people infrastructure through a firm but compassionate management approach: setting clear expectations, building trust, staying accessible and present, and holding team members accountable. The Executive Director will provide oversight of daily operations and financial management, helping ensure program quality and compliance across government contracts and grants, and will partner with the Directors of Community and Housing Programs to advance service excellence while acting as a strategic advisor to the Board.

The ideal candidate combines a stability-first approach—reinforcing what works before introducing change—with an entrepreneurial drive to pursue growth, new partnerships, and expanded impact. The position supports an organization that delivers multilingual, free services, operates continuously, and provides emergency shelter access at any hour, along with crisis response, counseling, accompaniment, safe housing programs, family-focused case management, and prevention education. A salary range of $200,000–$220,000 is offered, commensurate with skills and experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package, and The client is committed to workforce diversity and fair consideration for qualified applicants.
