Job summary

Venture BHM in Merchantville, NJ seeks an Executive Director to lead a detox and residential addiction treatment program. You will oversee clinical, medical, admissions, compliance, and operations, driving census, quality of care, and financial performance.

This role requires strong leadership, P&L experience, and knowledge of NJ licensing and DMHAS. A master’s degree is preferred; compensation is based on experience.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in behavioral health leadership, with at least 2 years in an Executive Director or senior role
• Detox and residential SUD experience preferred
• Knowledge of NJ licensing, DMHAS, and Joint Commission or CARF standards

Responsibilities

• Oversee all daily operations across clinical, medical, nursing, admissions, and support departments
• Drive census and revenue by partnering with admissions and business development on referral relationships and conversion
• Manage the operating budget, staffing ratios, and payroll to hit financial targets
• Maintain full compliance with New Jersey DOH licensing, DMHAS requirements, and accreditation standards (Joint Commission or CARF)
• Lead survey readiness, incident reporting, risk management, and quality improvement
• Recruit, develop, and retain a strong leadership team and frontline staff
• Work with utilization review and billing to protect authorizations and reduce denials
• Build a patient-first, accountable culture and represent the program in the local community

About the Facility

Venture BHM is recruiting on behalf of a detox and residential substance use disorder treatment program in Merchantville, NJ (Camden County). This is a licensed program looking for an Executive Director to lead the entire operation and take it to the next level.

The Role

We're looking for an Executive Director who can run the whole building: clinical, medical, admissions, compliance, and the bottom line. You'll own census, culture, and quality of care, and you'll be the person everyone looks to when it matters. If you've been the right hand to an ED and you're ready for the top seat, or you've already run a program and want one worth running, this is that job.

What You’ll Do

What You Bring

• 5+ years of leadership experience in behavioral health, with at least 2 years in an Executive Director, Program Director, or similar senior role
• Detox and residential SUD experience strongly preferred
• Proven track record managing a P&L, census, and staffing
• Working knowledge of New Jersey licensing, DMHAS, and Joint Commission or CARF standards
• Understanding of ASAM levels of care, utilization review, and commercial insurance
• Bachelor's degree required; master's in healthcare administration, business, social work, or counseling preferred
• Clinical licensure (LCSW, LPC, LCADC) or nursing background is a plus
• A steady, visible leadership style and the ability to make hard calls
