Greater Indiana Clean Cities, Inc. is seeking an Executive Director to lead operations, implement sustainability initiatives, and grow local stakeholder engagement across Indiana.
The role involves coordinating events, advancing alternative fuels, and working with public and private partners to achieve strategic goals. Ideal candidates will have strong leadership, grant-writing, and public speaking skills, plus experience managing budgets and programs within a nonprofit setting.
Greater Indiana is an independent, standalone nonprofit focused on advancing communities with education and resources on alternative fuel vehicles. Our mission is to advance alternative, domestic fueled transportation, including energy-efficient technologies, across all sectors in Indiana. The 501(c)3 organization serves the entire state of Indiana, working with public and private sector members. Greater Indiana is a resource for members integrating alternative fuels, technologies, and efficiency measures. Greater Indiana hosts educational and networking events fostering partnership opportunities between fleets and industry providers.
Reporting to the Board President and Board of Directors, the Executive Director provides the support and management skills necessary to accomplish the goals set by Greater Indiana. The Director acts as the project manager for the organization’s efforts and coordinates various local events to best leverage resources, increase the number of alternative fuel vehicles on the road, and increase alternative fuel use. The Director develops and implements policies for achieving various long-range organizational goals. The Director builds consensus among organization members to move forward on such things as grant proposals, legislative agendas, technology evaluation, business development, public education, and infrastructure development. The Director works with state, county, and federal regulatory agencies, interest groups (such as environmental groups), media, consultants, and other organizations to help develop policies, coordinate work, exchange information, and represent members and the organization in public and private forums.

This position supervises the Program Coordinator and other positions created to report to the Executive Director.
Ideal candidates are excellent communicators, self-starters, motivators, leaders, creative, organized, and have a functional understanding of technical issues related to alternative fuels and alternative fuel technologies (e.g., hybrid electric vehicles, AFVs, idle reduction, etc.).
This position will work either in the organization’s Indianapolis office or remotely in a suitable professional environment. Employee will be expected to fulfill work hours and report weekly on their activities. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. Must reside in Indiana.
An employee must meet the physical demands described here to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee must frequently stand, walk, use, and reach with hands and arms. They will need to be able to set up tables, chairs, and other items for event booths.
This position is a regular position requiring 40-45 hours per week and occasional weekend work.
This position requires up to 40% travel within the State of Indiana including occasional travel outside of the state for conferences and training.
