Job summary

Douglass Community Services, Inc. in Hannibal, MO is seeking an Executive Director to lead our nonprofit human services agency with strategic direction, strong fiscal stewardship, and a focus on expanding community impact.

The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, and funders to ensure ongoing growth and sustainability for services benefiting children, families, and individuals in the region.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership or managerial experience in a nonprofit, human services, or educational organization.
  • Demonstrated experience writing, managing, and overseeing federal grants.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide visionary leadership and direction for the organization’s programs, services, and initiatives.
  • Develop and execute long-term strategic plans aligned with the agency’s mission and community needs.
  • Oversee daily operations while ensuring organizational effectiveness and sustainability.
  • Lead, mentor, and support the executive leadership team, including CFO, CHRO, and program Directors.
  • Foster a collaborative culture focused on accountability, innovation, and excellence.
  • Support program leaders across Head Start, Housing, Foster Grandparent Program (FGP), Volunteer Programs, and CASA.
  • Maintain strong fiscal oversight of agency operations, budgets, and financial planning.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, contracts, and funding requirements.
  • Provide oversight of federal grants, including monitoring expenditures and supporting successful grant management.
  • Serve as the public face and advocate for Douglass Community Services.
  • Build and maintain relationships with donors, funders, community partners, and stakeholders.
  • Expand fundraising opportunities and revenue-generating initiatives to support organizational growth.

Position Overview

The Executive Directorserves as thechief executive leaderof Douglass CommunityServices, providing strategicand operational leadershipwhile working closelywith the Boardof Directors, staff, community partners, andfunders. This roleis responsible forensuring the organization’scontinued growth, sustainability, and effectiveness inserving children, families, and individuals throughoutthe community.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary Range: $115,000 - $130,000 annually
  • Paid Time Off: 14 paid holidaysplus a 2-week Winter Shutdown(valued at over$10,000 in paidtime away)
  • Upfront Leave: 40 hours ofPTO and 24hours of unpaidtime off availableimmediately
  • PTO Accrual: Earn 6.25% ofhours worked fromdate of hire, with progressive increasesafter the firstyear
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
  • Provide visionary leadershipand direction forthe organization’s programs, services, and initiatives.
  • Develop and executelong-term strategicplans aligned withthe agency’s missionand community needs.
  • Oversee daily operationswhile ensuring organizationaleffectiveness and sustainability.
Leadership & Team Development
