51 Vets Nonprofit Executive Director
51 Vets is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that helps elite military veterans successfully transition to equally stimulating positions in the private sector. 51 Vets was founded in 2019 and received our 501(c)(3) certification in 2022. Our mission is to provide a forum for elite veterans with specific military backgrounds to learn and network toward career paths in finance, consulting, private equity, venture capital, and entrepreneurship. We provide value to our Members by organizing networking summits, coordinating fireside chats, scheduling city meetups, and providing additional services for transitioning service members to continue their success in the private sector. Employers value our talent pool as our members have been specially selected and trained to become servant leaders who can lead diverse, cross-cultural teams to solve complex and ambiguous problems in any environment.
Executive Director Job Responsibilities:
·Responsible for planning, organizing, and direction of the organization’s operations and programs. Reports directly to the Chairman of the Board or delegated Board President.
·Develop and implement strategies to increase effective organizational engagement with members and mentors that leads to meaningful relationships and opportunities.
·Manages all systems and processes to aggregate member and mentor data, conducts analysis and provides reports to advise the Board and Advisory Board on strategy.
·Articulate members’ needs to match engagement opportunities with mentors or corporate partners.
·Plans and supervises the execution of summits, fireside chats, city meetups, workshops, and other programs within the organization.
·Fundraise through active engagement with existing and potential donors to reach financial goals.
Stated Key Performance Indicators
The Board expects the Executive Director to achieve these stated KPIs on an annual basis:
·Corporate Partners – attain 20 new corporate partnerships
·Fundraising – raise $400k annually, including through the annual NYC Gala
·Jobs and Internships – help 51 members gain employment or internship opportunities
·Member ROI – ensure 75% of members take membership survey annually, with 90% satisfaction as measured by NPS
·Fireside Chats – organize and execute 12 fireside chats with leading industry professionals
Work Hours and Benefits
The executive director is expected to work a minimum of 40 hours per week at their discretion, but must complete all tasks delegated by the Chairman of the Board or the delegated Board President. The executive director can build and maintain a volunteer staff at their discretion. There is no dedicated office, so the executive director may work remotely and travel as necessary to support the organization’s initiatives. This must be the executive director’s primary employment and focus. All travel expenses in direct support of the organization will be covered. The executive director will work as a contract employee for a minimum of one year. Salary negotiations will occur during the interview; an estimate of $80,000-90,000 annually.
Executive Director Qualifications & Skills
·Demonstrated leadership and management skills in the private sector
·Preferably a special operations or aviation veteran like our member demographic
·Strategic thinking and analytical skills
·Takes initiative with programs and policies to achieve the stated mission
·Creative problem-solving skills
·Professional in all written and verbal communications with members, mentors, donors, staff, and board members. Acts as the face of the organization.
·Willing to take constructive criticism and execute accordingly
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements
·Preferred 3 years business management experience or comparable corporate roles
·Proven record of leadership experience in operational environments
