Albany Technical College is seeking an Executive Director for Adult Education to lead and enhance programs across several counties. This role requires a dynamic leader to manage staff, develop curriculum, and ensure compliance with educational standards, promoting a positive and effective adult learning environment.
Executive Director for Adult Education (FT)
Albany Technical College (ATC) seeks a well-qualified, highly motivated and visionary leader to fill the position of Executive Director for Adult Education. The Executive Director for Adult Education at ATC has a pivotal role that involves establishing and overseeing adult education programs in all counties throughout the college’s service delivery area (i.e. Baker, Calhoun, Clay, Dougherty, Lee, Terrell and Randolph). This position operates under minimal supervision that will report directly to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and is responsible for advancing the college’s vision, mission, and values while ensuring that the adult education programs meet and/or exceeds the needs of individuals and employers within the Southwest Georgia region. The Executive Director will direct the recruitment, selection, assignment, motivation, and professional empowerment of assigned personnel, fostering an environment dedicated to enhancing student learning. In this role, the Executive Director will coordinate the development and implementation of curriculum tailored for Adult Education students, ensuring that instructional services are effectively administered. Key responsibilities include overseeing the administration of assessment and student placement tests, maintaining accurate and comprehensive student records, and researching grants and funding alternatives to support the department’s initiatives. The Executive Director will also coordinate GED testing, high school equivalency or diploma services, develop Integrated Education and Training (IETs) models, manage the financial and budget operations of the department, ensure that departmental and institutional goals are met or exceeded, and all requests for supplies and materials, including curriculum materials are reviewed timely and approved. The Executive Director will actively promote the adult education program to both public and private organizations, supporting expanded services and facilities within the Service Delivery Area. This role requires effective communication with department staff, other departments within the college, other colleges, system office peers and external entities, representing the department at various meetings and fostering a high-performance environment characterized by positive leadership and teamwork. The Executive Director will also maintain all appropriate programmatic accreditations (i.e. Cognia), be responsible for conducting both long-range and short-range planning, conducting regular evaluations of services provided, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and laws, while promoting a work environment of high morale and quality customer service through a collaborative leadership style that inspires employees to achieve established goals and objectives. The Executive Director will develop and maintain staff in-service activities, strategically define, launch, related to staff recruitment, retention, professional development, student support services and perform all other duties assigned by the Vice President. He/she should have good oral and written communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications: The applicant MUST have a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Education Administration, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field from an accredited institution *AND* at least five (5) years of work experience in post-secondary education leading grant-based programs. Direct supervisory experience required.
Preferred Qualifications: The applicant MUST have a Master’s Degree *AND* have two (2) years of full-time, paid work experience in a community or technical college supervising adult education-related teams and managing budgets within the last seven years. Demonstrated working knowledge of and experience in adult education, grant writing and proposals, and budget management.
Physical Demands: Work is typically performed in an office environment with intermittent sitting or walking in various settings. Must frequently lift and carry lightweight objects. A full range of hand and finger motion may be required for data entry purposes.
Salary/Benefits: Salary is commensurate with education and work experience. Benefits include paid state holidays, annual and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits package.
