Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Organizational Strategy
- Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the organization, its programs, and staff.
- Partner with senior leaders across Development, Finance, Housing Services, and Behavioral Health.
- Lead the implementation and continued development of the organization’s long-term strategic plan.
- Foster a collaborative, respectful, inclusive, and trauma-informed workplace culture.
- Mentor, coach, and develop leaders while creating opportunities for continued professional growth.
- Evaluate organizational effectiveness and identify opportunities to strengthen programs, processes, and operations.
Board Governance & Strategic Planning
- Partner closely with the Board of Directors on organizational strategy, governance, and long-term priorities.
- Provide clear and transparent reporting regarding finances, operations, risk management, organizational performance, and key metrics.
- Support Board committees and help align Board and staff leadership around organizational priorities.
- Lead strategic planning efforts and ensure goals are translated into meaningful action.
Fundraising & Community Relationships
- Partner with the Development Director to strengthen and grow the organization’s fundraising efforts.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with individual donors, business sponsors, community partners, and other funders.
- Actively participate in donor cultivation and solicitation, special events, community engagement, and grant-related efforts.
- Identify opportunities to expand the organization’s donor base and create sustainable sources of financial support.
- Serve as a visible and trusted representative of the organization throughout the Eugene/Springfield community.
Community Advocacy & Communication
- Build strong relationships with community organizations, governmental partners, contractors, funders, and other stakeholders.
- Effectively communicate the organization’s mission, programs, impact, and priorities to a variety of audiences.
- Advocate for solutions related to housing, homelessness, behavioral health, poverty, and health disparities.
- Inspire community support and collaboration around the organization’s mission.
Programs & Operations
- Ensure programs and services continue to effectively support the organization’s mission, goals, and community needs.
- Partner with senior leadership to evaluate program effectiveness, operational performance, and financial sustainability.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, industry standards, contractual requirements, and organizational policies.
- Review and negotiate agreements with funders while advocating for terms that support long-term program sustainability.
- Support the development and improvement of organizational systems, procedures, and standard operating practices.
Financial Leadership
- Partner closely with the Finance Director while maintaining ultimate responsibility for the organization’s financial oversight.
- Provide leadership around budgeting, financial planning, cash flow, financial performance, and long-term sustainability.
- Demonstrate the ability to understand and interpret budgets, income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and other financial reports.
- Lead the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors.
Qualifications & Experience
We are looking for an experienced leader who can balance big-picture strategy with hands-on organizational leadership and who genuinely enjoys building relationships with employees, donors, community partners, and stakeholders.
Qualified candidates should bring:
- A master’s degree or equivalent in a related field or 4+ years of related administrative leadership experience within a nonprofit organization.
- Progressive leadership experience with responsibility for people, programs, operations, or organizational strategy.
- Experience with fundraising, donor development, community engagement, or comparable relationship-building activities.
- Demonstrated experience with strategic planning, organizational change, and consensus-building.
- Strong financial and business acumen with the ability to understand organizational budgets and financial reporting.
- Experience developing, mentoring, and empowering leaders and staff.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- The ability to build trusted relationships across a wide range of individuals and organizations.
- Comfort navigating ambiguity, competing priorities, and complex organizational challenges.
- A leadership style that is collaborative, adaptable, thoughtful, and accountable.
- The ability to maintain a regular in-person presence in Eugene, Oregon.
Experience or knowledge related to housing, homelessness, behavioral health, human services, tenant rights, or housing and economic justice is highly valued, though candidates with transferable nonprofit leadership experience are also encouraged to apply.
