Overview

Who we are:
For over 55 years the mission of Community Ministry of Southwest Denver has been to meet the basic needs of individuals who are experiencing economic hardships and related problems in the Denver metro area. We provide a self-choice food pantry, children’s clothing, school supplies, holiday food and gifts and utility assistance while partnering with other non-profits for wrap-around services.

Position Overview:

The Executive Director (ED) is the CEO of the organization. They are responsible for overall operations, fundraising, finances, staff/volunteer management, and community outreach. The ED ensures programs and resources align with the mission and strategic goals of the organization and works closely with the Board of Directors. The role begins with a 3-month overlap/training with the current ED for a smooth transition.

Key Areas of Responsibility
  • Analyze current donor base and funding sources and identify gaps and opportunities to expand donor base and raise additional funds.
  • Develop a plan to meet financial needs with new and existing sources of funding (grant, events, donor campaigns) targeted by specific donor type.
  • Plan and oversee campaigns to raise visibility and increase support in collaboration with the operations manager and the Board of Trustees.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, businesses, foundations, and community partners.
  • Write and/or manage grants.
  • Oversee /facilitate the execution of events and marketing efforts: website, newsletters, annual report, social media as assigned to other staff members and committees.
Community and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Function as the public spokesperson for the organization.
  • Build strong relationships with churches, civic groups, schools, businesses, and donors.
  • Represent the organization at community events/meetings.
  • Partner with other nonprofits for greater impact.
Leadership and Board Relations
  • Work with the Board on vision, mission, and strategic goals.
  • Prepare board reports, agendas, and reports in collaboration with the committees and the board.
  • Keep the Board informed about trends, issues, and opportunities.
  • Liaison between the Board and staff/volunteers/committees.
Operations Management
  • Supervise and support staff.
  • Conduct staff meetings, coaching, and evaluations.
  • Ensure policies and daily operations run smoothly.
  • Provide training and education for staff.
  • Oversee budgeting, accounting, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with accountant, treasurer, and auditor.
  • Manage checking, investment, and emergency funds.
  • Ensure compliance with federal/state/local regulations.
  • Prepare the annual financial report.
Qualifications
  • Leadership and Management: Experience in nonprofit, food service, or business administration management.
  • Fundraising and Development: Grant management, donor cultivation, campaigns, and events.
  • Communication: Strong public speaking and written skills; ability to engage in diverse groups.
