Job description

Make a Difference. Build Community. Lead What's Next.

The Down Syndrome Association of the Valley (DSAV) is seeking an engaging, compassionate, and resourceful Executive Director to lead the organization into its next chapter.

Since 2007, DSAV has served individuals with Down Syndrome and their families throughout Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. Its Regional Down Syndrome Center for Success in Boardman provides programming and resources designed to support individuals and families while creating opportunities for connection, learning, growth, and inclusion.

This is a unique opportunity for someone who wants their work to have a visible, meaningful impact. The Executive Director will oversee the day-to-day operation of a community-focused nonprofit while helping DSAV expand its programming, outreach, fundraising capabilities, and presence throughout the region.

The DSAV Executive Director will be equally comfortable developing organizational priorities, speaking to a community group, connecting with a family, coordinating a program, cultivating supporters – all with a "roll up your sleeves attitude".

What You’ll Do
Lead the Organization
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and oversight of DSAV's operations and programs.
  • Help translate DSAV's mission into programs, outreach, partnerships, and community impact.
  • Bring initiative, sound judgment, business acumen, creativity, and a willingness to pivot as community needs evolve.
Expand Programs & Community Impact
  • Coordinate existing programs and events while identifying opportunities to expand DSAV's reach.
  • Strengthen outreach to individuals, families, and donors across Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania.
  • Build relationships and represent DSAV at community events, health fairs, speaking engagements, and other outreach opportunities.
  • Take an active role in fundraising efforts and donor engagement.
  • Research and pursue grant opportunities and assist with grant writing.
  • Help coordinate fundraising initiatives and major events, including supporting the planning of DSAV's Buddy Walk.
Promote DSAV’s Vision
  • Serve as an enthusiastic ambassador and increase awareness of DSAV and the resources it provides.
  • Represent the organization through presentations, media interviews, community outreach, and social media.
  • Communicate with warmth, professionalism, and sensitivity when working with individuals and families.
What We’re Looking For
  • Nonprofit or mission-driven organizational experience
  • Strong overall business and organizational management skills
  • Fundraising and development experience
  • Entrepreneurial, hands-on daily approach
  • Available to work evening and weekend hours based on scheduled events and programs
  • Marketing, communications, or community outreach experience
  • Confidence with public speaking, presentations, media interviews, and community representation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to build collaborative relationships with families, volunteers, donors, community partners, and other stakeholders
  • A proactive, self-directed approach and strong problem-solving skills
Education & Technology
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office/Microsoft 365.
  • Experience with Constant Contact, basic QuickBooks is helpful.
Schedule & Flexibility

The position is based in Boardman, Ohio, includes employee health insurance, and offers a flexible hybrid structure. Regular in-office visibility several days per week is important because DSAV's Center serves as a resource for the community. Weekly schedules would be structured around events, community outreach, family connection needs, etc.
