Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma or GED; supplemented by law enforcement training and extensive supervisory experience.
• Possession of a valid Georgia driver’s license.
• Peace Officer and firearms certifications required.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and evaluates staff; conducts performance appraisals and addresses employee concerns.
• Manages budgetary matters for the Sheriff’s Department; reviews payroll records.
• Oversees internal affairs investigations and department investigations.
• Develops and updates department rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Represents the Sheriff publicly and coordinates with the public and other agencies.
• Administers promotional assessment centers and makes hiring decisions.
• Manages major departmental projects and reviews monthly/periodic reports.
• Perform general law enforcement duties and testify in court when required.
• Attends training to maintain certification as a law enforcement officer.
• Mentors staff and handles other related duties as needed.
