Job summary

Clayton County Sheriff's Office in Georgia seeks a Sheriff Major to supervise, direct, and manage the operations of a division within the Sheriff’s Department. This is an appointed, high-responsibility role at the discretion of the Sheriff.

The ideal candidate will lead staff, administer budgets, enforce policies, coordinate training, and ensure public safety through effective leadership and compliance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus vocational/technical training in Law Enforcement; six years of law enforcement experience or training; or an equivalent combination.
• Leadership and supervisory capability with staff coaching, discipline, and performance appraisals.
• Knowledge of budget processes, procurement, and policy implementation within a sheriff's division.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, directs, evaluates staff and handles performance issues.
• Manages human resources functions including recruitment, hiring, training, and payroll oversight.
• Prepares and monitors division budgets and approves expenditures and contracts.
• Reviews policies, procedures, and compliance; coordinates with internal and external stakeholders.
• Coordinates inmate transport, housing, and security for high-risk inmates.
• Ensures court security, testimony, and civil process responsibilities.
