Job summary

Town of Vienna is seeking a Deputy Director of Parks & Recreation to provide department-wide leadership for four functional areas, including maintenance, horticulture, programs, events, and governance. The role collaborates with Town management, staff, and community partners to advance strategic priorities.

The position oversees capital and operating budgets, program analysis, and asset management, with a focus on continuous improvement and accountability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in parks and recreation, business/public administration or closely related field.
• Six years of progressively responsible experience in public administration or recreation/facility management, including at least three years in supervisory/managerial roles.
• Master’s degree preferred for advanced leadership roles.
• CPRP/CPRE certification or similar credentials are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide department-wide leadership across Parks Maintenance, Horticulture, Programs, Events and Operations.
• Assist Director in establishing department goals, policies, and practices.
• Evaluate programs and facilities to identify opportunities for improvement and efficiency.
• Serve as Acting Director in the Director’s absence and manage special projects.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in parks and recreation, business administration, public administration, health, physical education or closely related field

Six years of progressively responsible experience in public administration or recreation/facility management with at least three years in supervisory/managerial roles
