Job summary

Spotsylvania County is seeking a seasoned leader to oversee the Parks and Recreation Department, directing property management across county parks and buildings. You will plan and control budgets, supervise staff, and coordinate infrastructure projects, ensuring safety, compliance, and timely delivery.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Public Recreation or related field with 6–8 years in construction, project management, and maintenance with supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Public Recreation, Leisure Services, Physical Education, or a closely related field.
• Six to eight years of experience in construction, project management, and maintenance with supervisory responsibilities.
• Preferred construction safety certification or equivalent training/experience.

Responsibilities

• Recommends hiring/promotions and reviews the work of the department's park staff.
• Develops job requirements for park positions and training opportunities for skill growth.
• Leads in selecting design consultants and professional services for department projects.
• Establishes and maintains preventative and predictive maintenance measures for Parks operations.
• Supervises and assigns tasks to Parks staff and oversees contracted personnel.
• Manages capital improvement projects and safety plans for staff and facilities.
• Prepares and manages SOPs and budget requests for parks operations and capital projects.
• Oversees master planning and long-range planning for parks, buildings, and amenities.
• Attends Board meetings and provides updates to the Parks and Recreation Commission.
• Ensures compliance with rules, safety, and quality standards in all park operations.
