Job summary

ACC San Diego - Association of Corporate Counsel seeks a senior counsel focused on environmental law and regulatory compliance. This role provides strategic oversight of legal strategies, coordinates with the SVP-CLEO and executive team, and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal rules.

The candidate will oversee internal staff and outside counsel, manage litigation, and develop policy and documentation for the System.

Qualifications

• Provides legal counsel to the SVP-CLEO, Board of Trustees, President/CEO, executive management, and staff.
• Maintains knowledge of regulatory developments and advises on potential impacts and compliance strategies.
• Represents the organization in enforcement actions before relevant agencies.
• Manages in-house counsel and retains outside counsel.
• Drafts ordinances, resolutions, contracts, deeds, leases and other legal documents; supervises litigation.
• Prepares legal opinions and attends governing board meetings to advise on legal issues.
• Leads performance planning and development for staff and consultants; enforces personnel policies.

Responsibilities

• Provides legal counsel to SVP-CLEO and senior leadership on environmental matters.
• Advises on regulatory developments and compliance strategies.
• Represents SAWS in enforcement actions before agencies and courts.
• Manages in-house and outside counsel and oversees litigation as needed.
• Drafts required legal documents and advises at board meetings.
