Job summary

Environmental Science Associates (ESA) seeks a Senior Counsel, Legal & Enterprise Risk to lead our firmwide risk program and advise leadership on contracts, employment matters, and strategic risk. The role collaborates with COO, HR, Finance, and regional leadership to balance risk with ESA’s business objectives.

You will negotiate high-stakes agreements, manage outside counsel, and guide enterprise risk and M&A-related due diligence. Location in LA or SF with a hybrid schedule is preferred.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in contracts, legal operations, enterprise risk, employment law, or related corporate legal/risk functions.
• Significant experience interpreting, drafting, and negotiating sophisticated commercial contracts.
• Strong working knowledge of U.S. employment law and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead ESA's firmwide risk-management program and ongoing enhancement of enterprise risk processes.
• Provide employment-law guidance and coordinate with HR on complex employee matters.
• Review, draft, and negotiate client, subconsultant, and other business agreements with a risk-based approach.
• Support proposals, business development, and go/no-go evaluations to identify risk early in the lifecycle.
• Advise executive and regional leadership on significant contractual, employment, and operational risks.
