Job summary

Mortenson Construction seeks an experienced Director of Executive Compensation to lead strategy, design, governance, and communication of executive pay programs. You will advise Total Rewards and senior leadership, ensuring competitive, compliant, and well‑governed compensation aligned with Mortenson's objectives.

The role covers base salary, annual and long‑term incentives, and executive benefits across multiple businesses, with a focus on privacy, equity, and performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Human Resources, Accounting, or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive compensation, Total Rewards, finance, HR, or related analytical experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of executive compensation experience, preferably in a large private company or complex enterprise.
  • Experience preparing materials for executive leadership, Compensation Committees, Boards of Directors, or equivalent governance forums.
  • Experience designing, modeling, administering, or supporting long‑term incentive, deferred compensation, or executive retirement programs preferred.
  • Advanced executive compensation expertise including base pay, annual incentives, long‑term incentives, and private‑company reward vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the executive compensation philosophy, strategy, program framework, governance model, and annual planning process.
  • Design, evaluate, and administer executive compensation programs across base salary, annual incentive, long‑term incentive, and other rewards.
  • Develop recommendations for executive offers, promotions, adjustments, retention awards, and leadership transitions.
  • Ensure programs support competitiveness, retention, internal equity, business performance, and long‑term objectives.
  • Prepare Board Compensation Committee materials and market analyses; manage governance documentation.
  • Benchmark executive compensation using private peer groups, surveys, and market sources.
  • Collaborate with external consultants to design peer groups, validate data, and analyze trends.
  • Provide insights on market competitiveness, pay positioning, and financial impact.
  • Maintain confidential compensation data with strong controls and audit-ready documentation.
