Job summary

WGL Holdings, Inc. seeks a Senior Communications Advisor to lead strategic communications for Utilities leadership, shaping messaging for employees, customers, regulators, and media. You will develop integrated plans, lead executive communications, and steer crisis and issues management.

In this high-visibility role, you’ll translate complex business initiatives into compelling narratives, collaborate across functions, and support emergency response communications and public affairs strategies.

Qualifications

• 7–10 years of progressively responsible communications experience.
• Strategic communications plans and counsel to senior leaders.
• Executive communications, speechwriting, media relations, issues management, and stakeholder engagement.
• Ability to manage sensitive, high-profile or complex communications challenges with confidence and sound judgment.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience supporting crisis communications or emergency response.
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Affairs, Government Relations, or related field.
• Experience with regulated utilities or energy sector is a plus.
• Experience managing executive social media and thought-leadership programs is an asset.
• ICS training or emergency management experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary communications advisor to Utilities leadership.
• Develop integrated communications plans aligned with business objectives.
• Lead executive communications, speeches, talking points, and key messages.
• Manage proactive and reactive media relations for high-profile issues.
• Anticipate risks and develop protection strategies.
• Coordinate executive visibility opportunities and external events.
• Collaborate across Public Affairs, Customer Experience, Operations, and others.
• Support emergency response communications and crisis planning.
