Job summary

The City of Glendale is seeking a Communications Director to plan, organize, and direct the activities of the Communications Department. You will serve as the City’s Public Information Officer and primary media contact, guiding messaging for major initiatives and citywide programs.

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in a related field and brings seven years of progressive communications experience, including three years in management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, public administration, or a related field.
• Seven years of progressively responsible experience in communications, public relations, or a related field, including three years of management or supervisory experience.
• Experience leading communications across multiple departments or business units; municipal government experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates the Communications Department’s activities, budget, and personnel.
• Develops and implements the citywide communications strategic plan.
• Advises City leadership on public information and messaging for major initiatives.
• Directs media relations, press conferences, and serves as public spokesperson.
• Leads crisis communications as the official PIO in the EOC.
• Oversees digital content strategy and internal communications programs.
• Maintains branding and messaging consistency across all departments and platforms.
