Job summary

The City of Glendale, AZ, seeks a Communications Director to lead the Communications Department, serve as the Public Information Officer, and act as the city’s primary media contact across all channels.

The ideal candidate has a BA in communications or related field with seven years in communications, including three years of management, preferably in municipal government. This is an executive, on-site role with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, public administration, or related field.
• Seven years of progressively responsible experience in communications or public relations.
• Three years of management or supervisory experience.
• Experience leading communications across multiple departments or business units is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates the activities of the Communications Department.
• Develops and implements the citywide communications strategic plan.
• Advises City leadership on public information and communications strategies.
• Directs media relations, press conferences, and crisis communications as the PIO.
• Oversees city branding, messaging, digital content, and internal communications.
• Manages budgets, contracts, and vendor relationships.
