City of Glendale, CA is seeking a communications leader to direct citywide communications and community engagement, aligning internal and external messaging across departments and building strong partnerships with stakeholders.

The role oversees media relations, crisis communications, and graphic design services, and ensures coordinated outreach at civic events while advising the City Council and executive leadership on public communications and engagement matters.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English or related field required.
• Master's degree in the above areas is desirable.
• Eight years of progressive experience in marketing/communications/public relations required; at least 3 years in supervisory capacity in a union environment.

Under the direction of the City Manager, this position leads citywide communications and community engagement — including internal/external communications, media relations, and messaging consistency across departments. The position builds and maintains partnerships with stakeholders, directs community outreach and civic events, oversees emergency/crisis communications, graphic design services, and Glendale TV Studios operations. The position also coordinates the citywide media relations team and advises the City Council, and Executive leadership on public communication and engagement matters.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English or a related field is required. A Master's Degree in the above-stated areas is desirable.

Experience:

Eight years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, communications, community engagement or public relations is required three years of which must include experience working in a supervisory or management capacity in a union environment. Experience managing communications in municipal government is highly desirable.
