Job description

About kala

Helping US-based startups and SMBs build stronger teams by finding no more, no less than the right people remotely for tech, product, and marketing roles worldwide.

About the hiring company

Our client is building software that makes responsible, automated decisions for every participant in the international supply chain. Importing goods into the United States is very complex, and recent policy changes make it even more involved. They are a well-funded company boasting an experienced group of engineers, a working product, and growing customer traction.

About the role

The Executive Business Partner will work directly with the CEO to drive high-impact initiatives across the business.

This role is in essence an Operations Generalist who owns the connective tissue that keeps a high-growth company running: FinOps, RevOps, CX, and critical special projects.

This will be one of the hardest jobs you’ve ever had and you shouldn’t take it if you’re not deeply and intrinsically motivated to win and grow.

This role will put you on the fast track to becoming an executive decision maker and leader.

During your first several months, you'll shadow the CEO to gain a deep understanding of how the company operates, how decisions are made, and how teams collaborate.

You’ll also hit the ground running solving problems, learning a lot, and becoming the go-to person for operations.

Over time, you'll take increasing ownership of cross-functional initiatives, represent the CEO in meetings, and become a trusted partner capable of driving projects independently.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who thrives in fast-paced startup environments, enjoys tackling ambiguous problems, and wants to grow into a senior operational leadership role.

Responsibilities
  • Resolve operational issues that don’t fit neatly into another team’s responsibilities (HR, compliance, AP/AR).
  • Act as the accountability czar to drive delivery on cross-functional projects spanning Product, Growth, Customer Success, and other teams.
  • Track priorities, manage timelines, and ensure critical initiatives move forward by proactively following up with stakeholders.
  • Identify operational bottlenecks and bring ready-to-deploy solutions.
  • Design, test, and implement scalable processes across every function of the business.
  • Build reports, dashboards, and operational metrics to improve visibility and decision-making.
  • Own FinOps: invoicing, internal reporting, vendor management, expense reconciliation, AP, monthly close process
  • Act as the CEO’s partner to operationalize strategic initiatives across the business. When a project is important and Hugo needs support seeing it through, you make it happen.
  • Act as the CEO's eyes and ears across the organization, surfacing risks, opportunities, and recommendations.
Requirements
  • You’re a finisher. You take ownership of messy problems, figure out the right answer, and ship solutions without waiting for permission.
  • You’re comfortable with ambiguity. Startups don't have perfect processes, and when there’s room for improvement, you document it.
  • You have good judgment. You know when to move fast, when to slow down, and when to upscale. You don't confuse motion with progress.
  • You’re low-ego and high-trust. You'll work directly with the CEO, which means fast feedback loops, real influence, and zero time for posturing.
  • 4+ years of professional experience, ideally with at least one role at a startup
  • Strong quantitative skills: comfortable in spreadsheets, building models, and working with financial data
  • Excellent communication skills: you can write a clean memo, run a tight meeting, and explain complex topics simply
  • Self-directed execution: you don't need heavy oversight to get things done right
  • You have a strong desire never to work as a cog in a large corporation and crave the chance to prove yourself in a scaling company where you can create your own path.
